Back In Black.

I blame the garden for not blogging for a couple of days.  The weather has been beautiful and my lovely garden has been a tad neglected.  I've spent three solid days planting seedlings and doing general maintenance and I'm so happy with the results.  It so pretty with the wisteria, magnolia's, weeping cherry's and my glorious Mt Fuji Cherry Tree all coming into flower.  This prompted me to go to Banana Island to take some shots in my new outfit because it's spring there.

The look started when I found this mini leather skirt at Indented Fashion and grew from there.  I found the lacy top at Graffitiwear which was part of a top and pants set.  I loved the geometric cut of it and thought it would soften the harshness of the leather.

I wore three sets of necklaces from Maxi Gossamer called 'Aphrodite's Dream' using the color change menu to turn all the stones black.  I came across the 'Disco Ball' earrings at Xia's Boutique.   The bag is a winner from Azoury called 'Timeless Bag'.

My shades are from AvaGirl and can be worn on the head or as glasses...love it when glasses have that option.

To finish off I went straight to Gos for some of their amazing boots.  These are called 'Equestrian Boots' although when I wear top boots for riding, they've never looked this sexy.

Hope you like my naughty black number that I would definitely wear clubbing.  Well maybe without the nip slip:-)

I'm On Stripe.

I've had this striped shirt from Pichi for a little while and have been meaning to blog it. I really like the gold lapel studs and buttons.  I found these shades at Mon Tissue called 'Harlow Sunglasses' and the gold details picks up the gold on the shirt.

The bag I picked up at Boom called 'Studio Tote' and love the boxy style of it.  I went hunting in my inventory for hair and loved this curly do from W&Y.

I love the simplicity of these add-on Llena sandals from Slink.

Champagne Chalice.

Oh I do love it when I receive a gown from Sascha's Designs.  I always know before I open the box it is going to be stunning.  This 'Natalya' dress is certainly no exception.  It is definitely one of my favorites.  I chose to show the red because it is so rich of color and eye catching.

Look at that amazing pattern which shimmers in the light.  I'm wearing it with the shoulder piece and frilled bodice.

Now that is what I call a gown.  All I need now is a partner to go to the ball.  Any takers?

Come Into My Dressing Room Said The Fashionista To The Fashionata.

Well my dears, day two of not being able to have fun in The Arcade saw me visit The Dressing Room for a shop-a-thon and I found me some goodness.  The hair is a beauty in a huge variety of colors from LoQ Hair called 'Donut' shown in Caramel.  The mesh top and skirt are from Ricielli called 'Papi 11 Jumpsuit' in Pink and Nude.  Its a lovely little outfit and I love the belt and cuffs which really set it off.  Finally the skin is from Al Vulo called 'Cecilla'.  All are bargains and that's what is wonderful about these events where designers contribute their wares for us to enjoy without having to rob a bank.

The draping of the shirt over the belt and folds of the skirt are what make mesh so special.

I used the color change menu on the 'Ireben Carry All' bag from Indyra Originals to compliment the skirt and found these great suede boots from Maitreya called 'Radical'.

Some earrings from Pixel Box from the 'Steampunk Open Secrets' set and a group gift necklace from Pure Poison Fashion were added along with the suede 'Mery' gloves from Celoe and I'm done.

If you haven't visited The Dressing Room this round, do go.  There's some great stuff to be had.

Mr Virtual World Winner - Mr Australia - Erik Bayn

Yesterday (Saturday July 6 at 10am) I had the privilege of being one of the judges in the Mr Virtual World pageant and what an event it was.  Superbly hosted by Ms Persia Bravin and Ms Carilynn OHare, I was totally impressed with the caliber of the top 13 contestants I was there to judge.

For any of the doubter's, let me impress upon you that it is the judges throughout the competition who score the many categories that pick the eventual winner.  It was so difficult scoring the contestants to give us our top 5 and even harder scoring to secure the winner.  I had so much fun and having been in their place a few years ago, know that one has to have stamina, commitment and style to get to the end, let alone win it.

I was thrilled to see Mr Australia, Erik Bayne, win the event but the competition was truly stiff and any one of them deserved the title. Congratulations to Erik, the runners up and all who participated in the pageant and behind the scenes.  It went off without a hitch which just goes to show the professionalism of the people running it.

I chose to wear this LBD by Little Petits Details called 'Dancing Dress'.   I dressed it up with a stunning scarf from Zeery's, black mesh gloves by Celoe and wore the diamonds from a pair of Cheeno gloves I purchased ages ago that sit over the hand.  I splashed out of the set of 'Tefutefu' earrings from Mandala.

Every one present looked stunning and all appeared to enjoy the pageant enormously.  I know Erik has a big year ahead as Mr Virtual World 2013 and I wish him the best of Aussie luck.

You're So Cheeky.

Its not always in SL that tight shorts work well with the body but I found these mesh leather Ani Hotpants at Ducknipple and just loved the studs, ring and zipper.  I mean if your zip breaks in these, you're in trouble although Cha would be ok because she vajazzle's.

I didn't know quite where I was going with the look until I found this freebie group gift lace poncho at Boudoir.  It was originally a cream color but I changed the color to black.

Another freebie group gift were the Pony Girl Boots also from Boudoir.  See my horse shoe?  I felt the need for protection, so popped on the gun and holster from the 'Lost Ourselves' outfit by Envious.

The ripped socks are from DeeTaleZ.  Now remember I've already said they do great tights, stockings and socks.

The hair is a combination of a hair base called Malaysian Lace Cap from Eskimo Fashions and a hair from Diva called Miu.  I think they work well together, especially from the back.

I'm also wearing my favorite ever gloves from Celoe and the Snake Skin Clutch from Cherry.  The cross earrings are new in at Mandala called Ero Sensei.

So if you see me out and about in this outfit, please don't yank the chain on my shorts because god knows what you'll see.

Let There Be Peace.

Well what a terrible week its been for the dear people of America, in particular, those in Boston.  One can barely imagine the terror they have experienced allegedly at the hands of the young, misguided suspects.  We may never know the real motives behind it and really, there are no excuses for people executing such carnage but I can't help but wonder how people so young manage to be filled with such hatred.  This world is becoming a very scary place indeed and its becoming more apparent that each of us needs to be on heightened alert at all times.  Its no wonder that many of us turn to virtual worlds to escape reality for a while where we can create an existence of our own choosing.  My love and blessings go out to all those people affected and to the helpers who put their lives on the line to put a stop to the horror.

That said, on to what I love, fashion.  I was invited to join the Xia fashion group on Flickr and made my way over to Marketplace to check out their goods.  My eye was immediately drawn to this skirt which is actually called 'Symbols Kilt'.  I loved the design and purchased it.  Xia has a lot of uni sex clothing so this kilt can be worn by males and females.  I really love it but the only criticism for me anyway, is the alpha skirt layer could be longer to stop my legs poking through.  The skirt would work better when moving if they could attend to this issue and lower the alpha layer to just above the skirt hem.  Regardless, the quality of the piece is excellent and I particularly love the waist belt attached to the mesh skirt.

I found the lace top that is part of a skirt and top outfit at KANOU.  I love the shoulders, sleeves and flower attachment and I think it gives a lovely line to the upper body.

The shoes are a group gift from Pelle so a simple add to the group will get you these.  I'm wearing my SLINK hands with nails called 'Black Drama' from ASS.  I've been dying to wear my new necklace from Celoe called 'Abihall'.

I hope everyone has a super week and please, stay safe.

The Givers Of SL

I had a really good time putting this together.  Half my attention was on purchasing pieces and the other on discovering some new places I hadn't been before.  In amongst that I was perusing the feeds and thought I'd mention two people and their blog who really add such positivity to our blogging community.  Casja Lillihook and Gidge Uriza's blog, It's Only Fashion, take the time to give credit to bloggers when they feel their artistry and creativity deserve merit.  I think its a lovely idea and I really enjoy their 'Fast Five' posts immensely. With so much going on in SL and the vast amount of information that bombards us, its so easy to miss some really special posts.  Their commentary makes me stop a moment and appreciate the talents among you all that in all sorts of ways, keeps me interested and engaged in SL.  Bravo Casja and Gidge.  I think that giving out bouquet's says a lot about the people that you are.

Now on to my outfit.  Oooo ahhhh, I'm in love with the top (Celoe) and pants (ElyMode) in this ensemble.  I don't know what Elysium Eilde of Elymode does with her textures because they are so polished and perfect.  All of her clothing are distinctive in that her entire collection is cohesive and you know it's Elymode.  To me this is quite rare in SL, because I don't often see a piece and know immediately who designed it.  She also creates awesome eye make up among many other things so even more reason to visit.

The ultra feminine mesh top is called 'Rhonda' from Celoe.  I love the russet colors and waist bow which like all Celoe items, sits so perfectly on the body and screams quality.

The bag, necklace and hair band are from Tram...I swear I can't stay away from that shop.  The shoes are the latest release from Maitreya Gold called 'Suave' which they certainly are.

From the feeds, I noticed this wonderful sim called 'Small Town Green' and headed there to take my snaps.  Seriously beautiful and well worth the time to slowly explore all the nooks and crannies.

Oh and I changed my blog interface just for a change.  Wish I was more creative because I know how I want it to look but can't quite get it there...YET.

Are you all looking forward to Monday?  Maybe Berry has another Meme for us??????

Zebra Crossing

Please note: no zebra's were harmed in the making of this post.  It's faux all the way with zebra being my inspiration for the look.  I found the fab zebra printed vest and clutch from C'est la vie and set about putting together a casual look.  The pants are from the ::K:: label also available at C'est la vie.

I headed over to Mayfair for a spot of sight seeing, admiring the architecture of this fabulous build.

If you're at a loss for something to do and you appreciate art, head on over to the Avalon Art District for a walk around the galleries.  Something nice to do with your partner, friend or by yourself.

Another Meme...Fashion Blogging

As I mentioned a few posts back, I have been wanting to start at Meme about blogging practices to get to know you better but also I'm interested in how you prepare and what inspires you.  My interest arises from the fact that there are so many interesting SL blogs that I appreciate out there and I'd love to know what goes on 'behind the scenes'.  Interesting blogs equals interesting people. When I see styling that is amazing, I wonder what process the blogger goes through to get that look.  Or how long it takes one to create a post from beginning to end.  Or why some blogs are more popular than others and whether you think other forms of social media are important in self promotion.

I'd love for you all to participate.  Just cut, paste and delete my answers.  YAY.  Oh and put a link in my comments so I can read them.

1.  Blog Name?
Chalice In Wonderland.

2.  Blog URL?
http://chalicecarling.blogspot.com.au/

3.  How long have you been blogging?
Since July 2009.

4.  Why did you become a blogger?
For me it was a natural progression from modeling in SL.  I wanted to show off fashion and styles I liked to a wider audience. I mean standing in my SL home looking at my new purchase is not very stimulating.

5.  How would you describe your blog?
My blog is centered around SL fashion more than anything else.  While I sometimes express an opinion on SL happenings, I feel more comfortable sharing the positive aspects of SL fashion, although, I wish I could think of more to say.  I love blogs that have a mix of both fashion and social commentary.  I don't critique designers because I won't blog what I don't like but I do appreciate bloggers who do.

6.  What process do you go through when styling an outfit for your blog?
Because I don't blog for any label or designer, I purchase most of what I post unless a designer connects with my blog and sends me something.  I usually find a piece of clothing that resonates, put it on and then start to build from there.  I'm often seen TP'ing across the grid partly dressed looking for accessories.  I find that works for me because I can gauge color, patterns etc while I'm wearing the key item.  When I'm happy with the entire look, I save it and head out to a location or my photo backdrop on the roof to take my pictures.  I save the photo's to my computer and then open them up for photo processing.

Sometimes a look comes quickly and sometimes I scour every store I know to find that right accessory.

7.  How long does it usually take you to prepare a post?
I'm getting much quicker these days.  I'd say on average it takes me 3 hours for each post.

8.  How do you promote your blog?
I am syndicated to a few SL feeds but wish it were more.  I have been applying but it seems that no-one is home. lol.  I also post when I blog in Plurk, add my posts to Moolto and Pixel Fashion Group in world.

I'll be honest...I am disappointed that my blog isn't more popular after so many years but its my fault because I don't network enough.  I have become more insular in SL than I used to be and only pop my head up every now and then.  I think this is reflected in my readership and general interest in my blog.  I do dedicate a lot of time to it and sometimes wish I felt that it had a purpose and relevance in the blogging world.  That probably says more about me than anyone else.  It's probably the fact that I suffer depression and often internalize silence as no one cares.

9.  Are readers comments important to you?
Yup...I love to get comments.  It just validates the work one puts in.

10. I always get excited when I see a blog post from.....?
Shopping Cart Disco's SL Secrets.  I never have a clue who they're about but I love the comments left nonetheless.  I admit it, I love a bit of drama from the sidelines.

10. What do you think it takes to achieve a successful blog?
I guess this is really subjective because what denotes a successful blog but I'm sure most of us do it hoping for as wide a readership as possible?  I think it takes good networking skills and the ability to remain fresh and relevant.

Eyes Wide Shut

Here is a busy number that I styled around the fab "Mohair Mo Problems Cock Feather" jacket from Lush.  I'm a recent visitor to the store but I love what I saw and will definitely become a regular.

I was fortunate to be able to fit another mesh layer, the corset, under the jacket.  I think gloves are utterly overlooked but I wear them at every opportunity.  The Celoe mesh gloves are AMAZING as is all of their goods.

As you can see, I'm not in hospital yet as it seems we have a bed shortage.  Never mind, at least I get to blog some more.

Jumping in on Strawberry Singh's wonderful meme idea, I am putting together one about blogging because I'm really interested to know about the process we all go through and what inspires us.  Stay tuned....

Remember Me? No! Don't Answer That.

Oh my wordy yes it's been like forever since my last post.  Life has spun 180 and everything is different.  I upgraded computer's and haven't yet been able to workout how to download Photoshop CS5 to my Windows 7.  I'm doing something wrong and I just can't work it out...YET.

Anyway I do have Paint Shop Pro x2 and while I love my Photoshop, it will have to do until I work this thing out.

Here I am in simply my favorite hat in SL, the Cristianna from Donna Flora sitting atop my new 148 hair from W&Y.

I adore this "Sweet Celeste" dress from Boudoir.  The flower filled skit of soft pinks and beige tones just ripples with every move and the beige corset has lots of lovely detail making it so realistic.  The "Pony Girl" boots are also a from Boudoir.  I find Nemisis tights just the best as they are so well textured and you don't have unsightly seams and mismatching.  I also vote the 'mery'' gloves from celoe the best on the grid.

Yes it's that time of year again when all the kitty cat claws come out to play on "Agency Report" commenting on Miss Virtual World.  One has to ask is it really all worth it to chase a dream that isn't even real.  Oh well, each to their own.

"Well, you know what they say: if you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me! ".

Remember The Old Days.....

Do you ever wish you could go back to your early days in SL when discovery was the name of the game?  When every time you logged on, your learning curve was steep and it was exciting, fresh and new.  I often think of my first year and how I seemed to be continually in awe of something and thrilled when I learned a new trick.  I still love SL (obviously because I'm still part of the family) but just like life, I've fallen into familiar patterns and routines and have stopped seeking out new adventures, other than styling for my blog.  Unfortunately those hilarious, confusing and innocent days have gone forever.  I'm an old hand now and will never see SL again in all its wonder as I did in that first year.  But I will say, the fashion has never been better.

So on with my look...

I'm sorry but I had to bring out my Celoe 'Lo Long Trousers' in Cement out for a second airing as I love them so much.  I undertook a massive inventory clean out...and I mean MASSIVE.  I found this lovely soft, floral shirt from Label Mode called 'Blair' in the color Sandy.  I wondered how they would look together and I'm happy with the result.

Some elements of vintage really worn with my new elikatira hair called 'Locked' in Blond. I remembered my pashmina belt in beige by Veschi and added this for some extra flair.  Unfortunately I looked and looked and couldn't find the LM to Alla Ruff's store.

I am in serious love with Cheer No's Kamala wicker bag range and this one in FAKE 'snake' makes me very happy.

And speaking of cheers, I give three of them to Label Mode's lovely Blair shirt.  Its impeccably constructed..

Bliss A-ddress.

Not all LBD's have to be clingy, flesh-baring little number's.  I found this edgy version with sculpted shoulders at Bliss Couture one day and loved the lines.  Called 'Zerbino', the material appears to be a heavy self-patterned, shuttle woven brocade.

Next thing I receive another of  MyStiCa Matova's new releases from Bizzare Hair and that was enough reason to style me up a storm using various hues of yellow and jet black as my theme..  The hair called 'QT' is a quirky little up do with wisp attachments that is essentially lots of little knots tied with ribbon...soooo cute.

I think one of the thrills of styling for my blog is starting off with one or two pieces and then off I go shopping, putting it together in my mind as I go.  The pants are Dade Slacks in Gold (mesh) from Celoe.  Loving those folds on the lower legs.

Another trip to LaGyo introduced me to the fabulous wicker bag, 'Lameus Pom' headdress, gold 'Fizz' earrings and the 'Be Careful' ring.  I do tend to go off in LaGyo.  The lovely necklace is called 'Respect' from Nemesis and my shoes are called 'Pietrasanta' from Similar Footwear.
